Show Vikings crown Royals to remain unbeaten By DIRK FACER Sporls Editor ROY Viewmont's march toward perfection continued Tuesday Tues-day with a 71-57 crowning of the Roy Royals. Paced by a combined 48 points from all-state candidates Andy Jensen and John Ro bison, the top-ranked top-ranked Vikings improved to 8-0 in Region One and 16-0 overall. "Our size was what caused them problems," said Viewmont coach Clyde Nelson. "They were physical and they didn't give us the spots we wanted. We had to work hard. ' ' Indeed, in contrast to Viewmont's 84-42 win over Roy earlier this season, the Royals came out ready to play. "I knew we made them mad. They came out more aggressive. They didn't shoot the ball well at our place," Nelson said, "Tonight, we were better offensively getting the ball inside and hitting our shots. ' And on this night, nobody did it better than Jensen. The senior standout stan-dout connected on 13 of IS field goal attempts en route to scoring 29 points. "When it's going, it's going," Jensen said. "A couple of those shots were forced that went in, so I knew something was going right tonight. All the shots I got came from the other four guys." In the early going, Viewmont was unable to pull away from the pesky Royals. Jensen's eight points and Robison's seven gave the Vikes a narrow 19-17 advantage at the end of the opening stanza. A 6-0 run midway through the second period gave the Vikes a 27-19 27-19 lead and some breathing room. Viewmont capitalized on the cushion and held a seven-point advantage ad-vantage at halftime. In the second half, the Royals could get no closer than six points. Following four unanswered points by Nate Miconi, who finished with a team-high 18 points, Roy had closed the deficit to 42-36 with 2:42 left in the third period. By quarter's end, the stubborn Royals remained within striking distance at 46-38. However, it was just a matter of time before the Vikes slammed the door on the outmanned Royals. After a three-point basket by Miconi with 6:47 to play closed the margin to 48-41, Viewmont shifted Tuesday. In order for us to win everything had to go in and it didn't," said Roy coach Ted Smith. "I think Viewmont View-mont is the No. 1 team in the state. They do what they do best. We don't have the size to play with them." Viewmont center Don Faux joined join-ed Jensen and Robison in double figures with 12 points, including 10 in the second half. In addition, the Vikes welcomed back sixth-man Jared Peterson who had missed four games with an injury. He contributed con-tributed five points Friday.
