Ad-ministration. The announcement came during a formal dinner shortly before McKay's May 10 graduation from the George Washington University Uni-versity in Washington, D.C. Other inductees, selected from nationwide applicants, include one honorary inductee, James Osborne, National Commander of the Salvation Salva-tion Army, and several GW alumni who have distinguished themselves in the work force as well as in volunteer vol-unteer service in the public and private sector. McKay, one of a few graduating GW seniors invited to apply t6 Pi Alpha Alpha, met the first criteria on an "A' grade point average. The selection committee favorably considered his two years of service in the Italy Catania Mis-. Mis-. sion as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his six months service as mission financial secretary, and his then current cur-rent service in assisting his church , bishop with executive secretarial work in a 356-member singles ward. Prior to his graduation from the Brigham Young University, McKay served as a missionary on Temple Square. There he hosted hundreds of Italian-speaking guests, translated tours into Italian, and made cassette tapes of the tours. English-speaking hosts used these tapes when communicating with Italian guests. Among other considerations for McKay's election to Pi Alpha KENT S. MCKAY Alpha were his rank of Eagle Scout, his editorship of a high school newspaper, and his "Most Valuable High School Journalist award from the American Newspaper Publishers Association. At Brigham Young University, he served as a volunteer assistant at the public television station and as a "Y" group leader for incoming freshmen. He was awarded an internship in-ternship with KSL television in Salt Lake City and worked as a congressional congres-sional intern in Washington, D.C. |
