Wis sister, Kimberly Burbidge, 19, is also graduating.Their ' . father, Dr. George Burbidge, will be participating in the graduation ceremonies as a member of " Webet.State' faculty-Mrs, Burbidge says her children are highly motivated and hard working. BOUNTIFUL - If you set goals and work as a family to achieve them, great things can be ac- complished. The family of George and Carolyn Burbidge proves this statement - On June 9, Kimberly and Buzz (George William II) will be among the 2,000 'graduating students from Weber State College. The experience experi-ence is more memorable because . this is Weber's 100th anniversary and because their father, Dr. George . " Burbidge, will be participating in the graduation , ceremonies as a member of Weber State's faculty. The age of Kim and Buzz is another an-other aspect of this graduation that makes the story exceptional. Kim is 19. Buzz is 21 and has completed a two-year LDS mission in addition to completing his work towards a bachelor s degree, Mrs. Burbidge says her children, are highly motivated, hard working students. Dr. Burbidge credits goal . setting with the success his children have .achieved. "We are a goal oriented family We set goals and . review them often. All family members support each other and help each other-so (hat individual and family goals can be achieved," Dr. Burbidge stated. : ' Kim and Buzz will both graduate among the top students in the class. They have taken difficult classes and have achieved in many areas. 1 Both took AP classes at View-mont View-mont and Bountiful High Schools to give them a head start towards graduation before they entered college. col-lege. ... Kim earned 45 hours of AP credit. Buzz was a second quarter senior before he left for his LDS mission to Pittsburgh, Pa. Both were Sterling Scholars in social studies. ' Kim and Buzz are members of several honor societies including ' Phi Gamma Nu (social studies) and Phi Alpha Theta (history). Kim also belongs to Phi Kappa Phi. ' Buzz is a member of Alpha Phi Sigma (criminal justice.) , : , Kim enjoyed one special experience experi-ence while attending college She , worked for a quarter as an insbm for. -all the Republican senators serving in Washington, D.C. Her jo was to film news bulletins and public ser-" vice announcements for .the sena- - " tors. She was on duty when Pre1"- ; dent Ronald Reagan signed 3. ' famous drug bill. Kim also workod . for Senator .Chafee in his .vfaryla id . re-election, campaign.- Senaiof: t Chafee was ; chairman of the National Republican Conference, , the organization that sponsored the intern program. Currently Kim is completing her -student teaching at Woods Cross ' .High, where she has been wor'ing with Barry Bell in U.S. studies and ' ' Carolyn Leeper in English. The fact that she is nearly the same age as her high school - students has challenged her abilities, but it has been an asset, not a problem. i . Kim's degree will be in history with a minor in Eng ish a' 1 a ' . secondary teaching certificate. She wants to teach high school. Buzz has combined two opposite interests into his college programs.' ' - He will receive a degree in history with a minor in chemistry. His future plans are to attend graduate - v. ' school to pursue a career in law. . Dr. George Burbidge has been a ; professor of criminal justice at Weber State for three years. Prior to that he was a professor in political' " science at Weber for two years. He, too, is a member of the many . . honorary; fraternities including Phi Kappa Phi. He received a bache- lor's degree from Weber State and his masters and doctorate from the U.ofU. " , |
