A compromise suggested by William Whisner, assistant professor of philosophy, was adopted allowing instructors to be either a continuing or a three-year three-year appointment. If one chooses to continue as an instructor after his three-year appointment expires, he will have those years included as well in his seven-year period. To avoid possible problems during the implimentation of the new procedures, during the first year each faculty member can choose which procedures he would rather be working under (the present or the new procedures). Changes were also made in who makes up tenure and promotion committees in each department. The tenure committee will consist of all tenured members of an equal or higher rank than the person being considered and all non-tenured non-tenured members of a higher rank. The promotion committee will consist of all faculty members of equal or higher rank whether tenured or not. If both promotion and tenure are being considered concurrently, the tenure committee will serve in both capacities. |
