Show peter frampton, Lani Hall get it together on LP's ment the total sound of this alburn The best selections on the album are Tiny Dancer, an Elton John tune; Love Song, the first cut and a very popular song used by numerous singers; How Can I Tell You, by Cat Stevens; and Vincent, a beautiful song written and performed by Don McLean. Sundown Lady Lani Hall A & M 4359 I have just heard one of the best female vocalists in the business. Her name is Lani Hall, and if some of you cannot place the name she used to sing with Sergio Mendez and Brasil 66. She has decided, along with a number of others, to go out on her own. There is no apparent reason for her leaving the group. Maybe all she wants is a change of pace. She may not know it, but what seems to be her first LP may launch her newly-founded career from obscurity to stardom. Displays style "Sun Down Lady" not only dispalys Lani's eloquent style, but exposes some of her inadequacies as well. But this does not impair her ability to creatively express the feeling in a song. J J solo album for A&M " ds illustrates his creafve and proves this young man Zm have been out or this own in he first place. The break up, which Spn calls a "conflict in Seal ideas" has placed this songwriter-guitanst in n amazing posftion. Not only Is ne a good classical and folk guitarist, but a a00d hard rock guitarist as well. No longer is Frampton restricted to one oart of a group for he can now be his own lead vocalist, composer-arranger composer-arranger and of course, musician. Numberone in rock This past summer, the London critics (where he comes from) hailed him the number one rock musician. He also has a long line of credentials starting from the first band he was in, and ending with the folk group gone rock, Humble Pie. "Wind of Change," the title of the album, has some great cuts. There are a few not-so-great ones, but the good ones outnumber the bad. It would be advisable for the listener to hear this album several times before passing judgment on it. It contains music which one can reflect on not just a lot of noise. Step forward Two notable men in the music field appear on this LP. One, Ringo Starr, plays drums on a few cuts, and the other, Del Newman, arranger for Cat Stevens, lends his talents in arranging the strings. The first selection, Fig Tree Bay, is a remarkable mixture of contemporary contem-porary and pop music. Jumpin' Jack Flash, a Stones' composition is performed well with Frampton's innovative ability evident. |
