Show 11 Black cast ? 'Raisin in the Sun' at 138 This Tuesday night at Theatre j8 "A Raisin In The Sun" will be esented for the first time in Utah. ie play was written by Lorraine - 1 ' J ) x IT . , Hansberry and will introduce an all Black cast. They will include Judee Williams, Stephen Ronald Debies, Jer'rise Nalamiko, Endya Adadunyo, Marilyn Etheridge, Leon Brown, Cliff Williams, Jim Fanning, and Stewart Falconer. Ariel Ballif is now with the theater full time, after retiring recently as chairman of the Yale University Department of Theater Design. Mr. Ballif will direct and design the play, with Beverly Bunche as assistant director. direc-tor. "A Raisin in the Sun," a successful suc-cessful Broadway play in 1959 and made into a .movie and TV play is a drama about a family's frustrations frustra-tions in the black ghetto. Mr. Ballif Bal-lif says "it is not a protest play, but is a deeply-moving and tender look at the problems of the blacks." Jer'rise Nalamiko, one of the stars of the play, says "We are presenting pre-senting a new Black era in the theater. This play is completely community involved and will need all the support you can give it, by attending its performances because be-cause it is for you. This is the start of a new Black repetoire in Salt Lake. We are exhausting our efforts for complete black involvement, interest, in-terest, and participation from the Black community." The play will open at Theatre 138 at 138 South 2nd East, Oct. 10, and will run the 11, 16, 17, 18. You can make reservations by calling call-ing the theater. Tickets are $2. |
