Show I ' M'. Number II First community registration today procedures at' the clerk's office will not be conducted on the neighborhood days. August 12 and Aug. 22 are the hist neighborhood neigh-borhood days before the Sept. 12 primary election. Three days in October are set aside for neighborhood neigh-borhood registration. State law requires six months residency in the slate and (it) days in the county before a citizen is eligible to vote. Eligible voters who have moved since the last election, haven't voted since 1968 or just turned 18 can register at a neighborhood agent from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The location of these agents is available from the county clerk's office, 328-7541, 328-7541, the League of Women's Voters, 328-4532, or Tribune information, 524-4501. Normal rc.n'rL-t.L Common Cause may challenge this requirement; such action in other states has led to a shorter residency requirement. Federal law requires only 30 days residency for Presidential elections. Sterling Evans, county clerk, expects 25,000 new voters to register before the Nov. 7 election, elec-tion, making the Salt Lake County total 250,000 voters. With registration drives planned by both parties, high schools and colleges, this total may go higher. |
