Show i Enthusiasm marks Cockett shooting ability. "The ball just doesn't seem to go in," says Cockett. He has been improving every game though and should break loose soon for a point barage. If Cockett's scoring has dropped off this season, his defensive play has done just the opposite. Tim is probably the best defensive player on the guard line right now. Being taller than most of the people he guards gives him a real advantage over them. It takes more than being taller though says Tim. "You have to do a lot of thinking out there and you have to be in control all the time to be able to do the best job." Pi': By BRUCE WOODBURY Chronicle Staff shov. He leans over attentively, isidi listening to what his coach is telling him. Then with one super s leap he is at the scorer's table waiting to get into the frascas that Nv is taking place in front of him. His enthusiasm is not left at the scorer's table, however. Every time he dribbles the ball it is with the unbounded joy of someone I who likes what he is doing. He is I always smiling, whether on the 5 bench or on the court, and people watching Tim Cockett play J basketball know that the 6-4 V. Redskin guard typifies the example of this year's Foster Kids. That example of course would be f a basketball player who combines hustle, excellent conditioning, super defense and good court savy. Cockett has all these abilities and more. "I would like to be a clinical psycologist," he says. Tim graduated from Palos Verdes High School in California and decided to come to Utah "because both my parents went here." Tim's dad graduated from medical school here and is now one of America's foremost urologists. Cockett is happy he came here. "The fans are really great," he says, "they are friendly and loud, and they really support you." Being a psychology major Tim has done some thinking about getting motivated for games. "You have to get ready for the game long before it begins," Tim said. "In some of the close games this year," he said, "we have been able to pull away and win the game in the last 10 minutes." This he attributes to Coach Foster's training program. "He (Foster) is a great coach," Tim said, "He tries to understand the players problems and takes a real interest in his players." Foster's program will be given its first conference test when the Arizona schools come to town. "We should do good against both schools," says Tim, "we have to be careful though that we don't overlook Arizona, because they are better than their record." Cockett feels that Mark Soderberg will help the team inside and on the boards, "but he will have to learn to fit in with the team on the floor." Tim Cockett will also help the Foster Kids this weekend and for many weekends to come. And he will do it all with a smile, because Tim Cockett loves to play basketball. 1(rrwo Utah wrestlers practice for their upcoming meet with Colorado St. Saturday afternoon.
