Students who have a hard time neotiating the campus during early morning rush or while trying to get to know the campus may thank the Campus Planning Department for the new 172-sign network that has been set up. The new signs installed on campus roadways, parking areas and buildings are designed to aid motorists in negotiating campus roadways and finding a parking spot close to their early morning classes. They are also designed to help visitors and bewildered freshmen in finding their way around the campus. They should make the campus more friendly and less confusing. Maps have been installed to aid both students and visitors in finding their way around the campus. Ute motorists will find roadway maps at the entrances to the campus telling them the surest way to parking spots, and pedestrians will find building maps installed near walks for their convenience. The signs were designed by C. Dean Smith, a nationally known graphics designer based in San Francisco. According to Bruce H. Jensen, University architect and director of campus planning, the signs were designed to be "available but unobtrusive " This means that the signs were designed to be visible and clear but care was taken to insure that they did not detract from the beauty of the environment or Prove distracting to motorists or pedestrians. All the new signs are lettered in white, and brown was chosen as the background color. Backs are Pamted charcoal gray to blend easily with the environment, iigns denoting visitor in- |
