The logic adopted by gX presented the bill that , ZTJon, marching band SZT --old the $80,000 for that quarter until they do. r . i in flffprt the Assembly has signed a commitment which forces tht o PS de thle'c funding Whether the department comes ough or'not. Although few may doubt that Mr ack and the athleUc Ipartment will come through on funding subsid.ary gro ps, the fact remains that funding is no different now than it was last year. It's sad too sine the Assembly defeated an amendment sponsored by Bob Curtis Meg Fuller and nine others which would have insured some student voice in how the money was spent, yet provide the athletic department with the money it needs to operate. Now there can be no yearly review of the athletic budget by students and no line item budget request from the athletic department to insure students their money is well spent. In fact there is no control on the budget, just a lot of trust. What recourse do students have now to gain optional funding? Mr. Curtis, Miss Fuller and their cohorts have not given up. In the near future', they plan to circulate a petition calling for a student referendum on the subject. It needs 500 signatures. Undoubtedly the referendum will pass, unless the Assembly raises its mighty fist once again and slaps it down. In that case, the Assembly will have found the student body's fourth cheek and smashed it to the ground. |
