Rampton said in a report to the state press conference confer-ence on Thursday that he is very optimistic that the 18-year-old vote will pass the legislature. He also said that for the first time in a decade the state's unemployment unemploy-ment rate is below the present national average. "Our economy is quite healthy at the present time," said Gov. Rampton. The governor believes Utah is a strong contender for the site of a spaceport and thinks that eventually eventu-ally Hill Field could be involved with the maintenance of the spaceport. "But," as Sen. Wallace Bennett said, "it is five years down the road." When asked about Monte Cristo as the site of a rock festival, he said most of the land facilities in Utah are not designed for large groups of people. He said that in the Flaming Gorge and Glen Canyon Can-yon areas there is room for large groups of people, but they would have to be spread out on narrow stretches of land which would not be sufficient either. The governor said they had left the decision of holding rock concerts con-certs in the Fairgrounds Coliseum up to the State Fair Board. They have decided on a limited number of people in attendance and a required number of policemen and fire guards. "But, even then I think it seems like an unsuitable place to hold the concerts," said Gov. Rampton. He said he wished the railroad pact had included both Salt Lake and Ogden but he is not opti- |
