Show Pakistan could provoke serious difficulty in our world. Already India is alleged to have sent military aid to East Pakistan, and it would appear that the Indian press is agitating for intervention. This is a disgrace to a nation which prides itself on its "neutrality" and concern for peace. Apparently the Indians find it possible to put self-interest ahead of principle. We can be sure that there are other nations which would profit from unrest in the Indian subcontinent. Red China and India have had several clashes on the borders. The Soviet Union may seek to woo one side or another. The events there are sad and unfortunate enough. The greed of foreign nations will only provoke and prolong the suffering of the Pakistani people. This nation should use its influence to persuade all other nations to avoid participation in any way in this struggle, and we ourselves should steadfastly remain a non-involved party. Recent history has demonstrated to all that there may well be strife in far away lands that is better off left alone. Pakistan faces floods, famine, revolts Recent events in Pakistan have marked that country as one of the most unfortunate on our globe. The problems of Pakistan are many. The recent storm and floods which ravaged East Pakistan Pakis-tan killed hundreds of thousands, and it seemed that famine might have killed even more, had not other nations assisted. East Pakistan is one of the most heavily populated regions in the world, and its slow economic growth rate marks it as a disaster area. Should the population continue to grow at such a rate, government over such numbers, and the cultural growth and even civilization of the area could be smashed by the flood of human beings. It is not unexpected that there would be a revolt in East Pakistan. It is separated from West Pakistan by hundreds of miles on Indian territory, and is distinguished by cultural variation as well. Pakistan recently engaged India in battle, and the ravages of war cannot be overcome in only a few years. I am concerned that the rebellion in East |
