Show I-' v Y ' ' ' Last time U food prices go Up, Up Following the recommendations of the Union Food Service studies, the Union Board has authorized a general food price increase of beverages and foods sold in the Union Huddle, Cafeteria, and Commons The most notable change will be in the cost ' of drinks. No longer will students be able to buy a 1 0 cent or 20 cent coke. Drinks will now sell for 15 cents and 25 cents. The Union Food Service studies did indeed point out the necessity of raisin" food prices. The increase in salaries of food service employees, the increase in maintenance, main-tenance, and the basic inflation of food prices have put the Food Service $66,000 in the red. Projected figures showed that the food service would lose upwards of $100,000 during the next three or four years if prices were not increased. Faced with these figures, the board had ' no alternative but raise food prices. But now that the prices have been raised, the Food Service should be reminded of their promise that improvements in facilities and service will be made providing the best of food, facilites, and services to the needs of the University community. The Food Service should also be reminded re-minded of their promise with this food price increase, there will no more, and no need of one, for at least the next three years. This means that the Food Service j must pay stricter attention to their accounts, and must budget itself to meet the demands of the University without incurring $60,000 debts. |
