Show Union Board proposes 15-cent drink minimum A minimum charge of 15 cents per beverage was proposed in Union Board, Wednesday. Because of lack of voting members and the feeling that further discussion was necessary, the food price increase will not be voted upon until next Wednesday. Reason for the price increase is the fact that with rising food and labor costs, approximately $100,00 per year will be necessary revenue in the next three to four years to break even. The board thought it would be more desirable desir-able to raise food prices now to cover the three year period rather than raise food prices yearly. Under the proposed plan, coffee cof-fee will be sold on a discount plan of single cups costing 15 cents a two-cup bottle - 25 cents, or buying a 25-cup ticket for $2.50 or (10 cents per cup.) The 10 cent cup, even for carbonated beverages, bever-ages, will be elimated. The 20 cent size cup will sell for 25 cents for the same 16 oz. The 15 cent cup will sell for the same price at the same size (12 oz.) All other beverages will be on a flat 5 cent increase for the same size carton milk, orange, hot chocolate. There will also be an increase in selected food items in the Commons, Com-mons, Huddle and Cafeteria. Most sandwiches will be raised 5 cents along with French Fries, Onion Rings, Chopped Steak and Macaroni Maca-roni and Cheese dishes, also being raised 5 cents. Some less popular food items will be discontinued. Salads with dressing and desserts will not be effected. One of the reasons that Union Food Committee is operating at a loss is because two or three facilities facili-ties are required to be kept open during slow periods when one or two could adequately handle the volume. With this in mind, Union Foodl Committee has also proposed pro-posed various schedule changes that would save enough expenses to enable the reduction of increase in-crease revenue. The Huddle would remain at full service, i.e. no grill service or hot foods; until Union closing time. The Commons would open at 10 a.m. instead of 8 a.m. and remain at full service until Union I closing time. |
