Through the System The point I'm trying to make is that we can resolve our differences differ-ences by working through the system, which, I'm convinced, can be as flexible as the people of this nation want it to be. BY MAX GOFF Obviously, the events of the last two weeks point out very aptly that there is something inherently wrong in our society today. Whether Whe-ther the problem is primarily a generation gap, a communication gap or a credibility gap is extrem-ly extrem-ly difficult to say. Whatever the factor may be, it goes without saying that someone, somewhere must act in order to bridge that gap- . "Effete snobs" all across this great land of ours are crying out to be heard. What young people today are trying to say in the form of rallies, sit-ins and confrontations, con-frontations, is in essence, "Let us live our own lives." But the point just doesn't seem to be getting across. All Wrong Echoing the words of Mr. Fred Demman, Salt Lake County Democratic Dem-ocratic Party Chairman, "You're doing it all wrong kids!" And this is one time when I'll have to agree with the man. Rallies just don't make it anymore! any-more! Protest marches and sit-ins sit-ins only serve to polarize people. peo-ple. The rallies have served their purpose, but they have now reached a point where they seem to be out-dated and working only in opposition to their purpose. Their Own Game It seems to me that the thing to do at this point is to confront the opposition at their own game. What that would necessitate is first, an attempt at an educational education-al program for the purpose of exposing "swing groups" or the moderate factions in our society to liberal arguments. It requires a massive participation in o u r political structure. This necessitates necessi-tates activity from the grassroots level all the way to the top. This also may necessitate getting a haircut and putting on a tie for a relatively short period of time fine! The results of such actions act-ions would very likely be worth the effort in the long run. If a person happens to profess faith in the other side of t h e political spectrum great!
