Second Half The third quarter began having three fumbles, and tougher defenses de-fenses stopping all drives, until Hunter broke loose for a beautiful 60-yard TD run. The two-point conversion failed and the reds led 21-16. Defenses and inexperienced players blunted most of the offense of-fense for both squads throughout the remainder of the third quarter quar-ter and until Belczyk's run. The reds led in most of the team stats, gaining 240 net yards rushing rush-ing to the whites' 116, and 444 total yards to the whites' 398. If the offense stays as exciting as it was and the defense toughens up it could be a very interesting Utah football team this fall. BY JEFF SMITH Sports Writer Freshman halfback Gene Be!-czyk Be!-czyk ran a screen pass 40 yards for the winning touchdown, as the underdog white squad came from behind to upset the red squad 23-21 23-21 in the annual spring football game Wednesday night. Belczyk's run was typical of the powerful offenses that both squads showed throughout most cf the game. First Half The reds started the scoring off when G-'rald Dockery tackled white quarterback Dana Clyde in the end zone for a safety and two points, at nine minutes remaining re-maining in the first quarter. Clyde booted the penalty kick and the red squad under the direction di-rection of Scotter Longmire moved to the white 12 yard line where a Marv Bateman field goal attempt was blocked by Rich Didion. A run and a pass reception by Cal Pculson and another pass to Jim Brown, both thrown by Clyde brought the whites to the red goal where on fourth and goal to go middle guard Dennis Bearden charged quickly and dropped Ciyde to stop the TD drive. With Fred Giaves providing the main punch, the reds marched 94 yards in six plays to score. Bateman's kick was good and it was 9-0 for the reds. The red lead held up until 13:01 in the second quarter when Clyde hit Poulsen with a ten yard pass for the touchdown. Fleming Jensen Jen-sen kicked the PAT and the score was 9-7 in favor of the reds. Both teams exchanged punts before be-fore Clyde completes a 42-yard pass to split end Brown on the led three-yard line. Clyde scored on a keeper with 8:44 remaining in the first half. The white coaches decided to go for two points, but an illegal procedure penalty put the ball on the eight, where a pass - failed. The whites led 13-9. Freshman Bill Staats took the white kickoff and returned it 67 yards to the white 20. Fullback Jay Hardnian scored from the 12 two plays later, but these two points for Bill Hunter was stopped and the score was 15-13 for the reds.
