Show News Roundup ASUU to choose new member Higher Education" have been sent, through the University Legislative Relations' Committee, to parents iff students in Utah's nine state-supported colleges. Stan Smith, legislative relations committee chairman, said that the student government associations of all the schools cooperated in distributing of the pamphlet. The . pamphM explains the paradoxes of educational funding in Utah-the fact that despite our higher per capita committment to higher education we still budget fewer dollars per student. It urges parents to express their view on higher education funding in letters to their legislators. Institute Registration Registration is in progress for religion classes at the LDS Institute of Religion which offers over 90 classes to choose from including two new additions. The two new classes being added to the program are "Fundamentals of LDS Doctrine for Non-members" taught Thursdays at 3:20 p.m. in Room 20 of the West Institute, and "Mormonism for Inactive Members" taught Mondays and Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in Room 12 at the same location. Complete class schedules are available at either the East or West Institute. The regular StutJent F0 series held- Friday at noon in West Institute will begin Jan with Elder Marion D. Contestants must be sponso; by an organization and must fully matriculated junior studer A OB OB A OBi .- J Selection of a new member to replace Jeff Swinton on the Associated Students of the University of Utah Public Affairs board will begin this week. Swinton vacated his positions as vice chairman of ASUU Executive Council and chairman of the Public Affairs board to fill a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Applications are now being taken in the ASUU offices. Deadline for submission is tentatively set for noon Jan. 9. Applicants will first be screened by a subcommittee, chaired by Pat Christ, trimming the number of prospective- council members to four or five from which the council as a whole will make its final choice. When asked why an election was not called to choose a replacement for Swinton, ASUU president Steve Gunn stated "The ASUU constitution specifies that the council should select any new members it needs. An election isn't called for." Whoever is named as Swinton's successor however, will not inherit his positions. Frank Overfelt has been named as the new vice chairman of council and the chairmanship of Public Affairs board will go to Kathy Warner or Harris Vincent.
