Show Curriculum Board opens channels The Chronicle endorses the establishment of the Experimental Curriculum Board, an excellent means of starting experimental, innovative courses which will contribute to development of University students.. The proposal for the board was researched and written by two University students, Richard Sherlock and Jeff Fox, and presented to Faculty Council by University Provost Alfred C. Emery. Faculty Council approved the board with only one member dissenting. The board, composed of two students and five faculty members has the power "to authorize upon application ; from students, faculty or administration, temporary courses whose content is substantially different from other courses offered on a regular basis." The board may approve credit ! for such courses. If the board assumes its responsibilities, creative students and faculty will be able to devote time to learning experiences outside the classroom. Those Free University classes which are constructed with an academic element could be approved by the board as credit classes. Innovative courses in psychology, political science, architecture, business and sociology could be an incentive to practical experience in their field of study. Community ! service work, which enables students to develop skills and ; practical ability, as well as to provide the community with desperately needed service, could be accredited. Hopefully, then more students would have time to become involved in this type of learning. The Chronicle congratulates the students and faculty for establishing the Experimental Curriculum Board and urges them to make use of the board in setting up new courses. f WHAT IS YOUR I USE THE M.R.F.
