Show 68: Utah's year to rebuilt By Geoff Towns Staff Writer Rebuilding? You'd better believe it. If you've looked upon this year's football season as somewhat of a disappointment, look again. True, the Redskins have only managed a 2-4 record (hopefully to take a turn for the better Saturday), but in regard to building a stronger team next year, the season has been a great success. In his first year as head coach, Bill Meek was presented with a team whose last year's record was 4-7 and who had lost 22 lettermen to graduation. Not wanting this trend to continue, Coach Meek initiated ' some very effective changes. Freshman Program For 10 years Utah has sustained a junior college program, offering much of its scholarship quota to junior college transfers. Coach Meek changed the 'program back to one based on freshmen development, giving almost all of the available football scholarships to freshmen. The new program will not only pay off next year, but will continue to pay off (season after season). And a player who "comes up through the ranks of only one school develops a loyalty no transfer could ever gain. The freshman program would be a waste of time and money without a good frosh coach, so Bill Meek chose Ron Taylor, an all conference from Missouri in I960 and '61 qUait" background is impressive, watchin, AtN"! action the past two weeks is mr), he his ability.
