Show Chorale Presents Season's Finale The University Civic Chorale will present its final concert of the season sea-son in Kingsbury Hall Wednesday at 8 p.m. A highlight of the evening will be the performance of "Marches of Glynn" written by Dr. Jay E. Welch, associate professor of music mus-ic at the University. The concert will open with Bach's "Christ Lay in Death's Dark Prison," Pris-on," featuring the chorale and the University Chamber Orchestra. Solo artist will be Jerry Powell and Bonnie Winterton who will play the piano suite for four hands, Bizet's "Children's Games;" Thomas D. East, tenor solist, who will sing "Adelaide" by Beethoven and "When I Think Upon the Maidens" by Thomas Head. Also soprano Chairmain Hatch will join East in "Un di Felice Eterera" and "La Traviata" by Georgia Verdi. Three modern numbers will be presented, they are "Shepherd's Farewell," "Marches of Glunn' and "Jubilate Deo." The final portion of the program wil include five chorale numbers: "God Has Gone Up with a Shout" by Klein, featuring Robert Peder-son Peder-son as bass soloist; "Stabat Mater" by Franz Schubert; "Let Their Celestial Ce-lestial Concerts All Unite" by Handel; Han-del; "O Voto Tremendo" by Mozart and "Let All the World in Every Corner Sing" arranged by Chapman. Chap-man. Tickets will be sold at House of Music stores, at the University Music Hall, the Union Huddle ticket counter, the Lectures and Concerts office, Annex 1164 and at the door. Official voice for the Utah Sym phony, the University Civic Chorale was organized in 1950 by the Department De-partment of Music and has since been co-sponsored by the Division of Continuing Education. Co-directors of the 150-member UCC are Dr. Newell B. Weight and Prof. J. Marlowe Nielson. Program numbers for the spring concert will range from the old German masters to works by contemporary con-temporary composers, Dr. Weight said. |
