Show Southeast Of Asia Carnival Ca rts By DARRELL LEO The Advisory Cabinet has been discussing the possibilities of promoting pro-moting an activities carnival, in order or-der to get more student involvement, involve-ment, raise funds for organizations and enlist membership. They talked about setting up booths in the Union Ballroom, providing pro-viding pamphlets and the like. I think the idea is good. But, why not expand upon it. In my version, instead of setting up booths, each group would have a hand cart to push throughout the Union. Students could sell their goods and organizations by having sandwich men advertise and "car-ny-like" hackers encouraging students stu-dents to buy goods. Travelling Popcorn For example, Spurs could have a travelling popcorn vending machine. The Alumni Association could sell left-overs frcn PTA bazaars. What better group to sell hot dogs than the IK's? We could invite the fraternities to sponsor stag films in the Union Little Theater. And sororities could show toned down versions of the same films. The Naiads could sell rubber boats. Chi Omega's could solicit for the sorority members, who would render services to eager male buyers. Pornography Pen Magazine staff could use the Cork Room to sell student-written pornography. And the faculty association asso-ciation could sell copies of departmental depart-mental tests. The Huddle bums could keep selling sell-ing whatever they sell down in the Huddle. This carnival atmosphere would liven up the Union. And after all, who knows how many BYU students stu-dents would be enticed into coming to the University. But then, we could be offering a better circus than Wilkinson has at the Y. 1 |
