Show Anti-Defamation League Keeps Tabs On Radicals Anti-Defamation League (ADD Community Consultant Walter Levy said, his organization is seeking to improve the rights and liberties of all people in our nation. The ADL, an arm of B'nai B'rith, has been in existence for 55 years. M'nai B'rith is 125 years old and contains about 400,000 members. Mr. Levy clarified the ADL's purpose is "to secure justice and fair treatment to all citizens alike and to put an end to unjust and unfair discrimination against any sect or body of citizens." Educate Nation The ADL is trying to further its goal through the education of the people of the nation. The league, according to Mr. Levy, is the leading lead-ing supplier of books, films and records to educational institutions. The goal of their publications is to foster better human relations and better understanding. The league also keeps tabs on all radical groups. They especially watch the para-military groups such as the Minutemen. Commenting Com-menting on the John Birch Society (JBS), Mr. Levy said the Birchers are as strong as the Communist Party was at its height in 1944. They currently have between 80,-000 80,-000 to 100,000 members. Condemns JBS Mr. Levy condemned the JBS because they seek to suppress the rights of democracy. He said they are a semi-secret organization working through front groups. The Blue Book, an official publication of the JBS, recommends Birchers work at the grass roots level to control such things as local PTA's and civic clubs and subversively sway the nation to their way of thinking. The JBS will use the Wallace for President campaign much as they used the Goldwater campaign. They play politics to enlarge their membership mem-bership and influence, according to Mr. Levy. JBS Controls Others Mr. Levy said, 'The John Birch Society has no belief in politics as the ultimate answer. They use pol-selves pol-selves so they can control others. Thus, in this sense, the John Birch Society is a dishonest and subversive sub-versive movement." The Chronicle came under fire from Mr. Levy for not digging into the facts of the appearance of Mr. Alfred Lilienthal. Mr. Levy felt the Chronicle should have ofund out who was sponsoring his speaking speak-ing tour and who sends him on his "extensive tour of the Middle East every year." According to Mr. Levy, "The American Friends of the Middle East, a front group for Arab countries, coun-tries, is financed by American oil interests, using and dissemating Arab propaganda and sending out pro-Arab speakers." Mr. Lilienthal has been a spokesman for this organization or-ganization and they may be the ones who support his "extensive tour," according to Mr. Levy. |
