Show 'Skins Rank Fifth In AP, UPI Polls Despite a rather shaky performance perform-ance in Saturday's overtime victory over Arizona, Utah soared another two notches in both wire service po'.'s, tc rank fifth in the national ratings. The Utes, who boosted their record rec-ord to 13-1 with wins over Arizona State and Arizona, moved from seventh to fifth in the AP and UPI wire service polls. And progress could still be in sight if the Runnin' Redskins pick, up a couple of victories vic-tories over New Mexico and Wyoming Wyo-ming this week. The Lobos of New Mexico are right behind the Utes, ranking sixth in both listings. After the opening round of WAC competition, Merv Jackson is one of two players to rank in all cate-, cate-, gories of individual stats. Jackson is second in scoring, seventh in shooting percentage, sixth in rebounding re-bounding and fourth in free throw shooting. Lyndon MacKay has yet to miss a free throw in WAC competition, com-petition, and is tied for top honors . in that department. Big Jeff Ockel rated as the league's second leading i ebounder. |
