By Saiuly Anderson Staff Writer Construction will begin on the planned $3 million housing site at the Medical Center in February, Feb-ruary, 19153, if all goes well, according ac-cording to Gary Forbush of the department of construction and planning. The plans are still in the schematic stage, and are still lather hazy, according to Forbush. The housing site will be South of the Medical Center Complex and northeast of the Fort Doug- ers will bo added to the plant, and auxiliary equipment needed for new buildings. A $1.8 million project being done by the Keith Engineering Company, the plant will have new lines put in to all the new buildings. There will be lines to the Medical Center and Special Events Center, and to the Chemistry Building, Behavioral Science Building, and other buildings. Lines were put in last summer to the Physics Building. Since the piping will be all underground, un-derground, it will require considerable con-siderable amounts of excavation, so they hope to finish a great deal of the piping this summer. There are presently two heating heat-ing plants, the one by Milton Bennion Hall and one by the Park Building. The plant near the Park Building will be torn will be putting in a new pump house on the north side of Hempstead Hemp-stead Road that will supply part of the University water and other areas in the city. Several upgradings on the University electrical system will also be done this summer according to Fulsam. A new road, called the peripheral peri-pheral road which will complete the peripheral loop running around the University, will be cut from Fifteenth East Roadway Road-way into 4th South, running between be-tween the fieldhouse and the stadium. sta-dium. This will make it so that students won't have to go out onto 5th South to go around the Stadium. The road will run alongside the Stadium, with a concrete pedestrian walk on top of it containing con-taining bleacher seats and concession con-cession stands connected to the Sej J"' Photo by Thll Derby efe ver plant near the Park Bu.ldins; will be torn down ft; Z. addition is added to the plant in back of Milton Be:i-& Be:i-& e ' kiiin over the function of both plants. The addition will be large enough to allow for expansion, but the plant will probably need to be increased again sometime after 1970 according to Fulsam. Several additional wa'er systems sys-tems which are still in the planning plan-ning stage will be added along with the project. A new water reservoir may be put in rear of the Medical Center. The city las, and should contain about 150 apartments. It will contain one, two, and three bedroom units to house primary the medical house staff. It is hoped that eventually the project can be enlarged to house 500. Being done by architect Burtch Beall Jr., it will probably consist con-sist of one high-rise building, maybe 12 stories high, with some additional garden-type apartments ap-artments two stories high,' according ac-cording to Forbush. He hopes to finish it sometime in late 1970, hopefully by October. To carry the heating load for new buildings on campus, an addition to the heating plant behind be-hind Milton Bennion Hall will be constructed in the near future, fut-ure, according to Robert Fulsam, Ful-sam, department of construction and planning.
