Editor: I'm a 22 year old sophomore guess why? At first I was going to join ROTC then I wasn't then I was and now I'm not Alas and alack I feel that the matter would quickly cool if everyone remembered a principle we learned long ago in high school physics: THE HEAT OF FRICTION IS WASTED ENERGY Come on the issue is tear-in' tear-in' us apart! ! John Matheson (Man in the middle) Editor's Note: We agree. This will be the last letter printed on the current ROTC discussion. The Chronicle called a truce in last Friday's Fri-day's editorial. Misplaced Poll Editor: It seems that those in charge of poll placement made a serious seri-ous mistake in reacting to the irregularities of the primary elections. The mistake was in placing none of the polls in buildings used by science and engineering students. (The polls were in OSH, MBH, Union and Library.) It would have been a better solution and more equitable to the studentbody to have placed the MBH poll in either the Engineering En-gineering Building or the Physics Phy-sics Building. It is unfortunate that this error in judgement was made. Fred Seeley Specific Plan Editor: , Thank you for the Ron Scott coverage of my experimental structure, "Architects Show Wares," Chronicle Thursday, April 20, 1967. I feel I should comment on two points which the article implied that may confuse some of your readers. 1. I know of no conclusive evidence which would support the statement,". . . hence the building was built on the round no right angles to cause emotional upset." 2. THE BUILDING shown in the article is not "round" in the usual sense of that word as describing a regular geometric geo-metric form. It is an irregular curving form which attempts to enclose space with observed behavioral patterns. 3. The building shown is not, "a psychological building" or "mental health building" as some readers might conclude. con-clude. It is a week-end home located on Lake Providence, Louisiana and is intended to fit two specific people. George Trieshmann Look Elsewhere Editor: Mr. Hodgon's phillipic of April Ap-ril 24th completely missed the issue involved at the USU Military Mil-itary Ball. No matter how much truth there may have been to the cadet's remarks about Lyndon Johnson, the point is that LBJ also happens to be Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, and a cadet in uniform ought to have better bet-ter sense than to crack derisive deri-sive jokes about the man while functioning as an official at a formal military affair. The Fax paux was only compounded compound-ed by making the jokes in the presence of the Governor, who is a member of the President's party, and who was supposed to be the guest of honor that evening. Furthermore, the cadet ca-det has not been denied his commission, and the decision to break him in rank was made by the AFROTC department at Utah State not by the Governor, Gov-ernor, nor at his request. Rightly so: such conduct is unbecoming an officer and a gentleman. MR. HODGSON will be pleased to note that as a result of the cadet exercising his right of free speech, none of his constitutional con-stitutional liberties were abrogated. ab-rogated. He was not incarcerated incarcer-ated without habeas corpus, troops were not quartered in his dorm without his consent, nor was the matter of his religion re-ligion ever brought into question. ques-tion. Even had the cadet been subject to the UCMJ, there was nothing involved in his treatment which was out of harmony with the Code. Therefore we would suggest that if Mr. Hodgson is really looking for Corruption,' he ought to leave Cal Rampton's office and step over to the Attorney At-torney General's fiefdom. Now there are some REAL issues! David Irvine Ralph Mabey Stan Smith Lost and Found Editor: A couple of days ago I happened hap-pened to be on campus to inspect in-spect the condition of the gravel grav-el in the University parking lots. In the course of my examination, ex-amination, I observed a huge semi-cubic object which on closer inspection appeared to have a thin metal pole embedded, em-bedded, atop which as a small, triangular red flag fashioned of metal. To my astonishment, I further noticed two metal handles ingeniously attached upon the uppermost surface, geometrically placed beside the pretty flag. UPON THE object were some strange signs the significance signi-ficance of which was not apparent ap-parent to me inasmuch as, I regret, I am totally unable to read. To my discomfiture how- |
