Pullman who has been switched from halfback to defensive safety safe-ty will assume one of the largest larg-est defensive responsibilities on the team. Coach Mike Giddings had to come up with a man of speed, agility and experience to play the position, because the Utes will face three of the best passers in the country. Mike Brundage of Oregon, Virgil Carter Car-ter of BYU and Billy Stevens of Texas Western. (Stevens was the second leading passer in the nation na-tion last season). In addition to his duties in the defensive secondary, Pullman will again assume the role of punter, kickoff specialist, field goal and PAT kicker. Coach Giddings is more than happy about the progress made by Pullman since practice began be-gan last week. Pullman did not participate in spring practice because be-cause he was in the starting lineup line-up for the Redskin baseball team. He is one of several all-around all-around athletes to don a Redskin Red-skin football uniform this fall. His desire and ability should make him a unanimous choice for All-Conference honors this year. During last season the press n Jerry Pullman, Utah's fine defensive back, Is an athlete of many talents. Besides kicking and tackling for the Ute gridders, this Highland High product Is a crack third baseman base-man for the Utah baseball team. |
