Show Final OSH Film to Feature jerry Lewis5 'Ladies5 Man5 The films of Jerry Lewis are satires of the American civilization, civiliza-tion, and have universal appeal The recurring theme of his movies is that the little guy who gets pushed around will not necessarily triumph, but he will survive; that everything will be all right. IN "THE LADIES MAN," Lewis portrays the caretaker (inefficient of course) of an exclusive girls' rooming house. The fact that the elaborate set for this picture cost a great deal more than is usually spent on comedy sets demonstrates the faith that Hollywood has in Lewis' ability to produce. Here then, is that most fascinating fascinat-ing thing, a developing creative comedian. He is now in what might be called the second stage of his career (of which "The Ladies' Man" is typical). Who knows what lies beyond? 1o demonstrate that not all comedy is found in the Past- the final film in tne American Comedy series will be "The Ladies' Man," a recent film made by Jerry Lewis. The movies committee will present this in Orsen Spencer Hall Auditorium Audi-torium at 7 and 9:30 p.m., Aug. 12 and 13. ' MOTION PICTURES tend to produce pro-duce from time to time, comic niuses wn0se work has universal and lasting appeal. In the past were oeople le Chaplin and Fields. In the present is Jerry Lewis. True comic ability seems to have certain traits, for these three figures have a great deal in common. They de-mand de-mand full responsibility for their films and sometimes act as writer, producer, director, and actor. They are extremely independent and resent re-sent interference with their work; if a studio does interfere, they move to another. Their personalities personali-ties are characterized by inner conflicts, unpredicability (Lewis has been described as "a walking Rorschach"), dissatisfactions, and striving for excellence. |
