Show New Coordinator Welcomed A Christmas card career? No, not for Pat Wilson, new University Coordinator of Student Activities. A Christmas card recently brought Pat and his wife, Mary Jane, from Mississippi to Salt Lake City and the University of Utah. The origin of the Christmas card was an Army buddy friendship. friend-ship. Mike Matson, presently Assistant As-sistant Director of the Union, and Pat were stationed together at Fort Benning, Georgia. Later, they were both stationed at Fort Holabird, Baltimore, Maryland. THEIR FRIENDSHIP continued through Wilson's 14 months in Korea with Army Intelligence. After Af-ter his service in the Army, Wilson returned to his Alma Mater, Mississippi Missis-sippi State University, and while working there on his Master's De- gree, taught American Government. Later he worked as a pre-admissions counselor for Mississippi State, visiting high schools and talking with and helping students in Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Ala-bama, as well as in Mississippi. Through it all Mike and Pat with their wives corresponded through letters and Christmas cards. PAT AND HIS WIFE spent this last Christmas with his folks in Tapelo, Mississippi. While there, they received a card from the Mat-sons Mat-sons which inspired a phone call from the Wilsons to Salt Lake City. And this in turn resulted in Pat's application for the Coordinator position. Pat met Dr. Erickson, Assistant As-sistant Dean of Students, for an interview in-terview in New Orleans and in April, Pat was invited by Dr. Erickson Erick-son to fill Diane Hatch's job as- Coordinator of Student Activities. Diane left the University of Utah this summer to do graduate work at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. Pat plans to do graduate work here while working for the Union and intends to finish his nearly completed thesis, "Rise of the Republican Re-publican Party in Mississippi since 1875." He and his wife have been married mar-ried fifteen months. She is a graduate gradu-ate Of the Mississippi State College for Women and has a library science sci-ence degree. Diane's interpretation of the role of Coordinator is a pretty tough act to follow, but since July 1st, it looks like Dr. Erickson knew what he was doing when he cast Pat Wilson to fill it. |
