Texas Western University's tough guard, is the Most Valuable Player on the Redskin '65-66 all-Opponent team. Tives' Named; Ute Opponents Nielson Fieldhouse but it was a pot full. He played second-fiddle to Cowboy all-WAC Leon Clark, but not against Utah. That's why he's a Utah all-opponent. THE FIFTH man on the all-opponent all-opponent team is Duke's left-handed left-handed forward Jack Marin who scored 29 points against the Utes in the NCAA consolation game. Since Duke only beat the Utes 79-77, Marin was instrumental in at least one Utah loss and probably prob-ably in more than a few Duke wins. He was on most all-Amer-ican teams and was considered the man who made the Blue Devils go. The all-WAC team included Nemelka and Sherman as well as Freddie Lewis of Arizona State, Mel Daniels of New Mexico, Mex-ico, and Ted Pickett of Arizona. Lewis averaged 30 per game against the Utes while Daniels' rebounding and Pickett's shooting shoot-ing gave the Redskins fits. By MAC BACKMAN Chronicle Sports Editor Utah's basketball Redskins named their 1965-66 all-opponent teams for the season, last week. MOST valuable player on the all season all-opponent team is Bobby Jo Hill, Texas Western's sparkling guard. Hill, probably the best "little-known" guard in the country, scored 23 points in Utah-Texas Western semi-final game of the NCAA championships champion-ships in College Park, Md. three weeks ago. His big value, how-. how-. ever, is his ball-hawking ability. Against Kentucky the next night, in the NCAA finals, he stole the ball twice from Kentucky's ail-American ail-American Lou Dampier. Tom Workman, Seattle's outstanding out-standing junior, is a forward on the Ute's nemesis five and he truly deserves the honor. Utah played Seattle during the season sea-son and beat them, 116-103, but no player shined in that game like Workman. He scored 33 points in one of the best scoring scor-ing exhibitions of the season at Einar Nielson Fieldhouse. BYIPS DICK Nemelka, Look Magazine's all-America guard, is an all-star on this year's all-opponent all-opponent team, too. The Brig-hams Brig-hams defeated the Utes twice and no one was more instrumental instru-mental in the Cougar victories than this 6-0, 170-pound tow-head tow-head from West High. In BYU's 94-93 victory at the fieldhouse, Nemelka scored 34 points and most of the baskets were of the clutch variety. Wyoming's Dick Sherman is called Dead-eye Dick and for good reason he averaged 20 ppg during the season and at times he killed Utah. This writer's writ-er's memory doesn't recall how many points he scored in the first half of the game in Einar |
