Show SaltLakeHosts Research Meet Sociologists and psychologists psychol-ogists from the western United Unit-ed States, 150 of them, will meet in Salt Lake City today for the eleventh annual West Coast Conference for Small Group Research. SIX REPORTS and discussions discus-sions are scheduled beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Ramada Inn, according to Dr. Ray R. Canning, professor of sociology sociol-ogy at the University. Sarcasm will come under scrutiny at the afternoon session ses-sion what is sarcasm?, the social functions of sarcastic expressions, how to sharpen and control it, a release for tension? THE PAPER will be presented pre-sented by Dr. Donald W. Ball, professor of sociology at California Lutheran College. Col-lege. Another report will focus on what is now becoming a major national health problem, prob-lem, the alarming increase of released mental patients who return to state hospitals each year. THE PAPER will be presented pre-sented by Mrs. Dorothy Miller, Mil-ler, research specialist for California's Department of Mental Hygiene. Mrs. Miller's findings indicate indi-cate that returning mental patients careers are full of discontinuity and disillusionment. disillusion-ment. HER PAPER considers the consequences of this situation to both the patient and the community. The two sessions will be under the direction of Dr. John James, Department of Sociology, Portland State College; Col-lege; and Dr. Walter A.
