" f Utah's baseball team sporting a 7-5 record for the season and four wins in a row takes on a tough slate this week with four games slated against tough Weber State. THURSDAY the Utes meet the Wildcats on the Utah diamond at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader and then Saturday it's at John Affleck Af-fleck Park in Ogden with the same starting time for a two game stand. Weber State is presently sporting sport-ing a 5-1 record for the season including a double win over College of Southern Utah last Saturday 6-1 and 7-2. The CSU club had earlier in the season split with BYU. UTAH'S DOUBLE win over Idaho State last Saturday was once again featured by some fine pitching. Dave Varvel allowed only three hits in winning 6-1, and John Noriega came back in the nightcap to throw a two hit shutout and a 5-0 win. Coach Pres Summerhays still feels the Utah hitting is not up to standard and this department will have to become more consistent con-sistent if the Utes are to be a contender for the Western Athletic Ath-letic Conference title. HOWEVER, SOME timely hitting hit-ting by Craig MacKay and Steve Radulovich aided the Ute cause against the Bengals Saturday. MacKay got four hits in seven trips to the plate while Radulovich Radulo-vich hit one of the longest home runs seen at the Magna ball park, clearing the center field fence by 20 feet. In the four games this weekend week-end against Weber, the Utes will go with Varvel, Noriega, Brent Arnold, and a fourth starter yet to be named. Weber boasts their strongest pitching staff in a long time with Dennis Anderson, Ron Jancek, Richard Blake and Wayne Andriotti expected to get most of the heavy work against the Redskins. ANDERSON HAS defeated the Utes twice in the past two campaigns cam-paigns and is considered one of the top throwers in the Inter-mountain Inter-mountain area.
