Show Union Movie A Suspense Classic Jules Dassin, director of "Never on Sunday," "Phaedra," and "He Who Must Die" presents a classic of suspense and daring-do this weekend. "Rififi" isn't a "bash the guard and grab the ice" job, but a carefully plotted and skillfully executed heist. It's also a carefully plotted and executed film. What else from Dassin? ' THE FILM WAS so well known and highly thought of that an Italian spoof came out several years ago, the enjoyment of which was partially dependent upon knowledge of Dassin's film. In "Rififi" the essentially visual nature of cinema is exploited ex-ploited to the full where, in a 35 minute sequence, barely a sound is heard nor word spoken as the thieves break through the ceiling of a room protected by a sound-sensitive burglar alarm. Will they make it? Will they get caught? Will the anti-hero be committed or will he be jailed? Will you be committed after seeing this flick? Tune in Friday (or Saturday) for the answers, (bring a small file. . .) |
