Show Utes Lose To BYU The hustling Redskin track team couldn't match wits with the powerful Brigham Young squad Tuesday afternoon, falling fall-ing to the Cougars by a 104'2-35V2 104'2-35V2 count. The Utes nabbed but four firsts in the meet, leaving leav-ing 12 snared under the Cougar's Cou-gar's belts. THE MEET was the first encounter en-counter between the two teams and was run on the Redskin's cinders. The Utes were to test the Cougars and New Mexico in a three-way affair two weeks ago that was called off because of inclement weather. The overall BYU depth was too much for the Redskins to handle. The Cougars with three or four good men in every event ev-ent are definite contenders for the WAC championship which will be held in Salt Lake May 22 and 23. THE FIELD events kept the Utes alive in the contest, with three of the four wins coming there. Krege Christensen again turned in a win in his specialty, the javelin event, while Bill De-Vries De-Vries pulled out a victory in the high jump. Christensen and De-Vries De-Vries are second in best mark competition in the WAC for the season. A surprise win came in the broad jump event with ever-improving ever-improving Dennis Gladwell coming com-ing through for the win. The only race won by the Redskins was In the high hurdles, hur-dles, with Dennis Hall ahead of the field. Saturday, the Beehive Invitational Invi-tational Track meet will be held at Ute Stadium with all Utah college track teams competing. 1 |
