THE SENATE first voted to hold a short orientation workshop work-shop for newly-elected Senate members. A report on the bookstore, based on a survey which was conducted by the Welfare Committee, was presented by Kathy Adamson. The survey listed prices as the major student complaint regarding the bookstore. Miss Adamson said that bookstore officials offi-cials receive a 20 per cent discount on 'books from publishers. They then mark the books up 20 per cent for student sales, thus making them the same price as any other bookstore. MISS ADAMSON SAID that a survey, which was conducted on information received from several western colleges, revealed that all bookstores use the same 20 per cent mark up. She said that money at other bookstores goes to the same place as money at the University Bookstore does and that the University Bookstore Book-store provides more services than most campus bookstores. She suggested that a committee commit-tee be established to work with the faculty to insure that textbooks text-books would be ordered in time for students to purchase them at the beginning of every quarter. THE SENATE voted in favor of establishing an ASUU Academic Acade-mic Interests Committee which would look into and provide for action on issues concerning students, stu-dents, such as the recent art controversy. con-troversy. They passed a Political Processes Pro-cesses Resolution to encourage students to participate in mass meetings which will be held A-pril A-pril 27 to begin the election and nominating process. The resolution resolu-tion exhorts students to "in any other way possible exercise their rights and obligations to select candidates of their choice in public pub-lic office." The act commends him for his 19 years of service to the Uni-veisity Uni-veisity and grants him all the rights and privileges of membership member-ship in ASUU. |
