Show College Dropouts The Employment Bonus It has long been an educator's lament that the high school dropout rate will greatly increase the unemployment burden of the United States. When the problem appears to be easing, administrators are gripped with fear after reading read-ing college droupout statistics. The scapegoat for failure to stay in school has, for many years, been the old rhyme of "I had nothing definite in mind-no mind-no plans for the future." Why become bogged down in school? Hollywood wants starlits now, Wallstreet needs executives. execu-tives. Indeed it is a temptation to leave the University and go to work. What the situation boils down to is a need for a reconciliation reconcil-iation between studies and the so-called real world Soaking up inspiration from too much liberal education is not always a contributing factor towards earning a living. Whatever the answer to a dropout problem-relating off -campus work to on-campus study, less emphasis on research re-search and more on the individual student-colleges must adjust themselves not only to the student's desire for knowledge know-ledge but also that of maintaining a job. |
