Show o - Currington Leads Ute Strive For BYU Win Chuck Currington who has been coming along for some time seemed to gain some much needed confidence confi-dence last Saturday by tanking five field goals in the second half to help Utah with the 79-67 win over Utah State. Dennis Couch, regular Ute center, played a whale of a contest against Ag center Troy Collier but fouled out with 10 minutes remaining. The outcome then fell mainly on the shoulders of Currington. CURRINGTOIsrS biggest asset this season has been his rebounding rebound-ing talents against taller opposition. As a reserve he has averaged over six take-downs per contest. Scor-1 ing has never been the outstanding fact about this 6-6 junior center but last Saturday he even unveiled this little shown talent. The most spectacular display was when he slipped behind Collier, Col-lier, took a lob pass from the Ute guards and with two giant steps from the free throw line split the strings while peering down on the hoop. His confidence strengthened later when he found daylight and drove around the big Ag center for another an-other counter. His eleven points and nine rebounds were certainly a big reason Utah stopped the Loganites and could be a key factor fac-tor Saturday when the Cougars from BYU move into Salt City. The Utes will attempt to maintain main-tain their first place standing in WAC play in this first encounter en-counter with the young, but talented Cougar five from Provo, Utah. The Cougars sport a 9-9 won-lost record, but is not truly indicative of the' worth of this fine team. One must also take into account that all previous records must be thrown out when such old rivals get together. I 1 I T'JA i ' ' j if CHUCK CURRINGTON ... Outstanding reserve center. |
