Show Hertzfeldt, Knowles Get Weekly Honors Gary Hertzfeld ended his collegiate col-legiate career Saturday by completing com-pleting nine of 15 passes for 111 yards and added another 41 yards on ten rushing plays. Ed Knowles ended his collegiate carreer at guard by leading the squad in tackles and opening offensive of-fensive holes that led the Utes to a 25-23 upset of rival Utah State. The Chronicle has selected these two senior stars as back and line-man-of-the-week, respectively. Hertzfeldt also gained the WAC title as back-of-the-week as a result of a fine performance last Saturday. With his team down 20-7 at half-time half-time and 2343 going into the fourth quarter, Hertzfeldt guided the Utes to a third touchdown to narrow the Utah State margin to 23-19. He then accounted for the last 35 yards on a touchdown pass to Mike Davis, his second scoring toss o fthe day. Hertzfeldt, who owns most of Utah passing records, virtually cemented ce-mented his claim to the 1963 WAC total offense title and has gained the lead in individual passing statistics, sta-tistics, pending the completion of the season by challenger Tom Wilkinson Wilk-inson of Wyoming. KNOWLES was shifted to Utah's power slot, right guard, after playing play-ing left tackle as a junior last season. sea-son. His size (6'0, 225 pounds) has helped him be leader all year in tackles and blocks. The Utah line was smaller than the lines of every opposing team this year, but it still managed to hold back the power house walls of Army, California, Cali-fornia, Arizona State, Oregon State, and Utah State. |
