Show Campus Events Cancelled As University Mourns Stunned inactivity continued throughout the weekend, illustrated on campus as cancellations of scheduled events were rapidly announced. AMONG THE MOST significant and costly were the cancellation nf the AWS dance scheduled for Friday night, and the postponement of the Salt Lake Symphony Ball planned for Saturday. Both events in-' volved considerable expense and it was definitely a sign of immense effect the President's death had on the public. t -. ' PRES. A. RAY 0LP1N ' . . . mourns Kennedy's death ' THE MOST immediate cancellation cancella-tion was that of the Phi Delta Theta fall formal, to have been held Friday night. Rob Quigley later announced that it would be postponed until Dec. 6. Other social events for the weekend week-end were cancelled with no definite plans for future dates. Phi Sigma Kappa and Sigma Phi Epsilon dropped all plans for their parties Saturday night. The engineer's annual an-nual 'Oyster Stew' which traditionally tradition-ally followed a five-week beard-growing beard-growing contest was called off. According Ac-cording to Ralph Thompson, chemical chemi-cal engineer in charge of the function, plans for some type of spring party would be discussed later. Few other groups had social functions scheduled. ALL SORORITIES showed their desire to adhere to the national 'Day of Mourning' set aside by President Johnson by cancelling their chapter dinners and meetings usually held Monday night. All but three of the fraternities also cancelled can-celled their scheduled active meetings. meet-ings. In respect to the late President, schools were to be closed Monday. At the University, only night classes class-es were held that day, and all student stu-dent activities were cancelled. This weekend will be remembered remem-bered as an inanimated one.
