Mr. Hammond accuses us of saying that there is no evidence or defense for the charge that Communists have infiltrated in-filtrated the integration movement (concerning the statements of Ezra T. Benson appearing in tne Chronicle Oct. 29). We did not say that there might not be evidence evi-dence for supposing that Communists Commu-nists have infiltrated the racial controversy; what we did say is that Mr. Benson gave no such evidence evi-dence when he said things like the racial controversy "is part of the communuist-socialist conspiracy" and that the integration leaders are members of five to ten communist com-munist front organizations without with-out naming either the leaders or the organizations in his news conference. con-ference. Whether Mr. Hammond finds such evidence or not has nothing to do with our original charge! Nevertheless, Never-theless, the evidence he presents seem inconclusive, and in some cases irrelevent to his stand.
