Show COMING UP at the FIRMAGE THEATRE SAT. MATINEE, APRIL 21 "Apache Rose" (Republic) Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Gabby Hayes, the Sons of the Pioneers and "Trigger," the wonder horse, all gang up to make this another interesting "western" show. Bring the children and stay yourself you will enjoy it. SUNDAY-MONDAY, April 22-23 22-23 The Benny Goodman Story (Universal) King of Swing; ace-high jazz; swing, bebop, Dixieland, nc matter what you call it, the authentic folk music of these electronic times has a basic, primitive, irresistable appeal. Its great ones are the idols oi the people, all the people, and the greatest of these have a popularity which apparently can never fade. The magic oJ the Goodman clarinet and the arrangements, out of Tin Pan Alley in its greatest days, give the picture a touch of greatness 1 bound to reach you. Done in beautiful Technicolor with Steve Allen and Donna Reed sharing honors in the leads. Re. viewer's rating: A good picture for the whole family. 1 . in memory. . Reviewer's rating: Excellent. Recommended for entire family. TUES.-WED.-THURS, April 24-25-26 "Man With the Gun" (United Artists) I So many films have been compared usually without jus-! jus-! tification to "High Noon" since that masterpiece appeared I in 1952 that it may seem a lit- tie monotonous (not to mention i odious) to use the simile again, j But that is the quickest and surest way to give a fair indica-' indica-' tion of the nature and in some part the quality pf this fascinat-I fascinat-I ing, off-beat Western drama. ! Robert Mitchum is the town tamer, a man who takes pleasure pleas-ure in his deadly job; Jan Sterling Ster-ling is his wife, who has run away 'from him because of his profession. It's uninspired title notwithstanding, this is no picture pic-ture to be sloughed off on the action maret as "just another western." It's a great deal more than taht. Reviewer's rating: Another good picture for the entire family. FRIDAY - SATURDAY, April 27-28 "The Desperate Hours" (Paramount) Nerve-tingling is the word for this story of melodramatic suspense. Humprhey Bogart, his younger brother Dewey Martin and Robert Middleton have escaped from a federal penitentiary. They select the comfortable middle class home of Frederic March and Martha Scott to hide in. The slow build up of suspense and the meticulous meticu-lous drawing in of every detail add up to a superbly told story, powerful in effect and lasting |
