Show BEAVER EDITOR SEEKS COUNTY COMMISSION POST Aird G. Merkley, candidate for the tour-year County Commission position on the Republican ticket, this week declared his full support to Dwight B. Eisenhower and Sen. Richard Nixon as the standard-bearers standard-bearers for the Republican party in the nation. MERKLEY ; i years. An active member of the Beaver Lions Club, he has served as vice president of the organization, organiza-tion, and also was vice-president of the Beaver Chamber of Commerce. Com-merce. In earlier years, he served as a director .of Junior Chamber of Commerce. In 1947, Mr. 'Merkley 'Merk-ley acted as Beaver County chairman chair-man of Utah Centennial commit- . tee, and has served on various oth- I er community and county-wide J committees. Born 43 years ago on a farm, the candidate worked with both cattle cat-tle and sheep in his younger days and is familiar with many of the problems of the dairymen and stockmen. For several years, his father was a "beeman" and Mr. Merkley had the experience of getting get-ting "stung." For 15 years, Mr. Merkley worked for wages and obtained ob-tained first-hand information of the problems of the wage-earner. For the past eight years, the, candidate for County Commis-1 sioner has been self-employed, a3 f editor and publisher of The Beaver j Press. Many improvements in the mechanical and physical properties of The Press have 'been made in the past eight years. A building , was purchased in the business district dis-trict and was remodeled to accommodate accom-modate The Press on the lower floor and a modern apartment up- I stairs. New equipment and type also have been added. 1 A life-long member of the LD3 Church, Mr. Merkley filled a mis- ! sion to Germany from 1928 to '31. ! Since returning, he lias held many positions: for 13 years he was in the stake and ward Sunday School superintendencies; he was superintendent superin-tendent of MIA and in the bishopric bishop-ric of the former Beaver West Ward, and since February, 194 7, has been first counselor in Beaver Stake presidency. He married the former Merle Bingham, in 1931, and the couple I reside in a brick home on the rot'-- ner of 1st North and 200 East, j They have five living children: j Glade, a graduate of Beaver High, ' married Nordine Stoney and is enrolled en-rolled as a Junior at the University Univer-sity of Utah; Delores is a Senicr at Beaver High; Wayne and Nel- j son attend Belknap in the sixth and fourth grades; and little Jean, 21 months old.
