James A. Hooper, executive secretary of the Utah Wool Growers, risks the ire of the ladies who are indignant at the exhorbitant price of meat, " terming the feminine buyers' strikes a "petticoat boycott," and referring to the ladies who refuse to buy meats at present prices "publicity seekers ignorant ignor-ant of the meat situation." Maybe they are ignorant of the present meat situation, but such blasts at harried housewives will do nothing but arouse antagonism antag-onism among the folks the wool growers depend on. They don't know what's wrong with the meat situation, but they sure are sick of outrageous prices. A state-wide effort 'to reduce Utah's child accident toll of about 90 lives yearly through participation in the national child safety campaign in September, Sep-tember, was set forth by Dr. Welby W. Bigelow, acting state health commissioner, as an immediate im-mediate public health objective calling for concerted cooperation by all public health and medical authorities, and interested civic organizations. In our opinion, EVERY civic organization is or should be interested. "The needless loss of a single life, or the crippling of even one child, is an exorbitant price to pay for any neglect of this problem," Dr. Bigelow said. "Through the attention directed to child safety by the national campaign we have a most favorable favor-able opportunity for an intensified intensi-fied allied effort in our state." A 12-page, illustrated booklet, "Help Your Child to Safety," has been prepared by the Metropolitan Metro-politan Life Insurance Co., and is offered to the public by the State Department of Public Health. We Dunno what the unusually j large Republican majority in the primary means, especially the way Brack Lee outran the rest of the party, but we'd hazard a guess it was both a protest against the present administration, administra-tion, and a genuine American rally around a guy who, we are told, got an awful raw deal four years ago. At that time, when Gubernatorial Guberna-torial Candidate Lee was the victim vic-tim of a now-discredited "smear campaign," the citizens over the state were amazed at the rallying rally-ing of leaders of all Carbon County factions to vigorously protest and brand as outright (Continued on Back Page) HERE'S MORE ABOUT DUNNO Continued from Page One, lies the scurrilous statements contained in a propaganda pamphlet. pam-phlet. Included in a protest delegation marching on Salt Lake were Republican leaders, Democrats, union labor officials, leaders of the Mormon church, Relief Society, and Protestant and Catholic church leaders. The way the old boy has held the united support of all religious, reli-gious, fraternal, civic and political polit-ical organizations in -his old home town can only be interpreted interpret-ed as a fine recommendation for the guy's ability and character.. A lot of Milford folks and a good many travelers are sort of sore at "Uncle Pete" for closing clos-ing the Milford "Beanery." At the time the U P restaurant was closed, we wondered at what appeared to be short-sightedness on the part of the powers that be, and couldn't understand why they'd want to throw on an already al-ready woefully inadequately fed city all the railroad eating trade. Now the situation is getting get-ting worse than critical. |
