Not only is it excit-1 excit-1 v adventure for "" l children and adults 4 '1 ? Blike, but it's based I I Mx J on autnentic facts, ' l which only goes to John Daly prove again that truth is stranger than fiction. Each week, a historical scene is recreated for the audience in the same manner as an important current cur-rent event is covered today. There was no radio to bring to the people che news of the Battle of Gettysburg, Gettys-burg, the assassination of Lincoln, the defense of the Alamo, the witchcraft witch-craft trials at Salem, the Burr-HamilLon Burr-HamilLon duel and the discovery of America, but CBS. is making up for lost time in dramatizing these events as though they were occurring today to-day . . . Their man, John Daly, is "on the spot" each week, interviewing interview-ing the principals, giving details of each new crisis. When asked why a show based on Hie Boston tea party was not broadcast, broad-cast, Producer Robert Lewis Shayon explained that he strives for reality at all times ... If, at the time of the "tea party" there had been radio and OSS did a broadcast from the ship i'rom which the tea was thrown overboard, over-board, the British ships nearby could have heard the broadcast . . . Thus I hey would have been in a position to interrupt the scene and. there would never have been a Boston tea party. Every angle is checked thoroughly. . . . Muny heretofore unknown facts Libout famous people and events are brought to light ... . In all, it is easily eas-ily the most pleasant method -of absorbing ab-sorbing hisrory ever devised . . . And it is good for adults, too, for quiz shows in recent years have tended to point up the appalling lack of historical his-torical knowledge the average person per-son possesses ... If you haven't lizard "CBS Is There" yet, give the dial a spin on Sunday afternoons and leam while you listen to a really thrilling show. |
