Show Mr. and Mrs. J. Vance Gividen J. Vance Gividens to be honored at golden wedding reception In observance of their fiftieth fif-tieth wedding anniversary, family fam-ily members of Mr. and Mrs. Vance Gividen of Mapleton will honor them at a golden wedding wed-ding reception Saturday, December De-cember 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Mapleton Ward Cultural Hall. They request no gifts. Prominent Mapleton residents resi-dents throughout their lives, the Gividens operated the grocery gro-cery and drygoods store there from 1927 to 1948 and then sold the business, but Mr. Gividen continued with his repair and welding shop which was always a gathering place for many of the towns residents James Vance Gividen was born at Sulphur, Kentucky, June 28, 1902, the son of Joseph W. and Mary Alice Stone Gividen. He came to Utah with his family fam-ily at the age of two. His parents par-ents were converts to the LDS Church. He married Lucille Beck, December 15, 1919 and their marriage was later solemnized sol-emnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Mrs. Gividen was born July 30, 1902 in Leland, Utah, to Isaac and Sarah Beck. Following their marriage, the Gividens have lived their entire en-tire lives in Mapleton except for seven months when they lived in California. Mr. Gividen has followed the occupation of a mechanic and has done considerable con-siderable construction work. He worked for 20 years as a pipe fitter and welder. He served as Mapleton marshall for two years. He was a former member mem-ber of the Mapleton Lions Club and is an elder in the church. Mrs. Gividen has busied herself her-self as a wife and mother ana spent considerable time in church work. She was a Primary Pri-mary teacher and also a Relief Society teacher. She served as chorister and organist in the Mapleton Ward for many years. The Gividens are parents of eight children, six of them still living: Mrs. Blaine (Rhea) Williams, Wil-liams, Lander, Wyoming; Harold Har-old Gividen, Mapleton; Mrs. Dewey (Kathleen) Nelson of Spanish Fork; Bert Gividen, Riverside, California; Mrs. John (Georgene) Harris, Chicago, Illinois; Il-linois; and Mrs. Jerry (Mary Jo) Beck, Springville. They also have 29 grandchildren. |
