Show Victory needed Red Devils polish grid form for Pleasant Grove Friday I Whether the Springville Red Devils will remain in the title running will be determined here Friday night as Coach Mike Jacobsen's eleven plays host to the winless Pleasant Grove gridders in another night game at North Park beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Devils with a 1-1 record, will need the victory to keep abreast of Region Four leaders in the title chase for the AA post season playoffs. Springville Spring-ville failed to hold a determined, determin-ed, hard charging Spanish Fork eleven here last Friday night and lost 22-8 after having been beaten at their own passing game With Gardner in the driver's seat for the Dons, he passed for two touchdowns in the first and third quarters and piloted an 81 yard touchdown spree in the second quarter with only 5 plays, one of which was a 33 yard pass. On an intended pass play, with no Red Devil coverage, Gardner decided to run the ball and went for a 38 yard again. Spanish scored from the Devil 3. Coach Jacobsen's eleven came to life in the final minutes of the game after playing a loose defensive contest which allowed allow-ed the Don backfield more than enough time to come up with uninterupted pass plays or running run-ning plays and defensively kept Springville's talented passer, Lynn Allan, smothered most of the game. It was in the closing moments that Mike Marshall came up with a brilliant play offtackle on a fake pass and went for 30 yards down the east sideline and over for the score. Allan tossed a pass to Ray Neal for the two points something which has been added ad-ded to high school play and makes for more interest and importance to the point-after touchdown play. Spanish Fork tallied iM ' yards via the air while Sprtiw ville was being held to 30. Tne Red Devils were assessed 6-15 yard penalties which ptmei costly and a big factor In help ing the Don's cause. The Dev. ils had only 8 first downs to the visitor's 16 and counted for 139 yards rushing to Spanish Fork's 155. They also lost one fumble in an otherwise fumble-free fumble-free contest for a night game One of the bright spots of the game so far as Springville's largest football crowds in years were concerned was the perfec- f ted marching drills put on by ' the high school pep club at a halftime. Directed by Linda i Campbell of the high school, w the brilliantly dressed girls per ' I'm formed their formations In near 1,1 perfect precision much to the 1 delight of all spectators. Spanish Span-ish Fork's pep club responded with a hearty applause and a f( cheer at the conclusion of their performance, as did the parti- " san Springville fans. .
