Allan Open house will mark date for Mr. Allan The children of Henry K. Allan Al-lan are planning an open house in honor of their father on the occasion of his 81st birthday today, September 11, at the Allan home, 661 East 100 North from 4 to 8 p.m. The family requests no gifts. A native of Mapleton, he was born there September 11, 1888, the son of Charles Edward and Elizabeth Watkins Allan. He spent his early life there and then moved to Springville after his marriage to Sarah Jane Barker January 22, 1913 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He has been active in the church and is presently a high priest. He has filled a number of positions in a church capacity capac-ity throughout his life. Mr. Allan has worked on various jobs throughout his life. His early years were spent on the farm in Mapleton herding cattle on the foothills during the day and returning with the cows in the evening. He hauled barrels of water with a team and wagon before his father dug a well. He assisted with the threshing and the many jobs on the farm. He later worked at Ironton, Geneva Works and at the Kolob Stake farm. He still continues to raise a beautiful vegetable and flower garden always giving some of each to friends and relatives. He enjoys all kinds of sports and still enjoys fishing and hunting. He follows his grandchildren grand-children now in their sports activities. ac-tivities. One of his outstanding achievements is his hobby of knife making. He recalls that at the age of eight years, he and his sister Mary were thrown off their horse when, during the Springville Spring-ville Bank robbery of 1898, one of the robbers frightened their horse. His father and brother, Will, helped capture one of the robbers when he swam across Hobble Creek. One of the robbers rob-bers shot his uncle, Joseph, in the leg and through this he lost his leg and had to wear a wooden one the rest of his life. Mr. Allan and his wife Sarah celebrated their golden wedding in 1963. They will be observing their 57th anniversary in January. Jan-uary.
