Show jj womgn's BY MARY LEE Those kooky clothes may be on the way out of fashion. At least, top-rated designers now showing their collections in New York seem to have returned re-turned to sanity; that is, they like pretty feminine clothes again. The grotesque, the clumsy, and the Halloween costume will take a back seat for fall and winter. Even peep-show fashions are on the wane. Suddenly more dresses add jackets or vests; tunics top pants; jumpers team with blouses ; scarves muffle necklines. Soft suits with belts or pleated skirts are frequently shown. And in dresses, black jersey, wool crepe, velvet or satin often show up with long sleeves and easy skirts. As for hemJines well, any length goes. Coats, suits and evening gowns are longer, while daytime clothes are often above the knees. But there is a stronger feeling of wearing a skirt at whatever length you like best and without looking look-ing like a "square." McCarthy gives up key committee com-mittee post. |
