Show '68 Volkswagen has new fuel injection system The development of an "electronic "elec-tronic fuel injection system" for use on Volkswagen's 1968 Fastback and Squareback Sedans Se-dans marks the first time in the automobile industry that a fuel injection system has been used as standard equipment on economy cars. Previously, a fuel injection system was usually us-ually found only on expensive touring cars or racers. A spokseman for Volkswagen said, to best illustrate the dif-diference dif-diference between the carbure-tion carbure-tion found in most engines and the pressurized spray of gasoline gaso-line injected electronically into the cylinder heads of the 1968 VW Squareback and Fastback Sedans would be to compare "a perfume atomizer to a hose nozzle." The advantage of fuel injection injec-tion over conventional carbure-tion carbure-tion is a more precise blonding of fuel and air at all engine speeds; the result is that un-burned un-burned portions of fuel which can pollute the atmosphere are kept low well under the amount permitted by government govern-ment specifications. |
