Show Proongetf ivnfer cemorafzes safe With the longest winter hampering spring activities ac-tivities at the high school, track, baseball and tennis sports are about as active as the robin trying to thaw out a frozen nest. All activities have had to be in the form of indoor exercises what with a snow-covered or icy track whipped by a frigid breeze that intersperses the snow during each week. Even with the weather what it is, Coach Hal Jensen has some 70 fellows signed up to compete in the track and field sport this spring. Actually the Red Devils have little or no nucleus to work from, but an enthusiastic group of fellows is-expected is-expected to give the Devils a good start in the sport when weather warms up. Only returning veteran is Dennis Strong, who took third in the region last year. Other early prospects include Mike Taylor in the discus, shot and javelin throw. Kay Tuttle is being counted on in the 880. Dave Hallenbeck should show well in the 100 and 220. The Devils will be hurting somewhat, some-what, at least experience wise, in the pole vault, hurdles and possibly the sprints.. They should show up well in the weights, however, Coach Jensen Jen-sen opined. Larry Vane and Stewart look to be SHS milers for the year. Other fellows will show up in the events as the season progresses. Some added facilities on the track are being provided this year and with the regional track meet scheduled in Springville in May, things are looking on the up for the track and field sport. Meets are scheduled, but may have to be changed because of the cold weather, Coach Jensen said. Tennis at the high school will be coached by Alma Garrett Gar-rett and SHS hopefuls are now practicing in the gym. |
