Show National Ski Patrol Day slated UK1AN HEAD Ski races have always attracted at-tracted enthusiastic crowds, but the crowd expected to witness the race scheduled this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Brian Head has got to be downright excited because the racers will ski blindfolded. As a recently established Utah state holiday, National Ski Patrol Day will be celebrated at Brian Head Ski Resort April 3, and everyone is invited to the slopes to participate in the day's exciting events, said Brian Head National Ski Patroler director Stephen Haggerty. "This is the first year we've ever attempted anything of this kind at Brian Head," explained Haggerty. Hundreds of dollars in donated prizes are to be given away throughout the day to those lucky people with the winning tickets. Tickets are $1 donation each with the money going to help the Nation Ski Patrol. The tickets can be purchased from Brian Head Sports, Antone's Interiors, Pizza Factory, Brian Head Ski Resort, and from the National Patrolers. Grand prizes include one pair of Rossignol S-3 skis from Brian Head Sports, one pair of Scott ski poles from Ron's Sporting Goods, a scenic flight for two over Cedar Breaks from Color Canyons Aviation, two day's lift tickets, rentals and lessons for two on any weekend from Brian Head Enterprises, Inc., one half-hour scenic helicopter flight for two from Skyhawk Helicopter Service, a ski parka from Georg's Ski Shop, two summer nights' stay for two from Chalet Village Resort Con-domium Con-domium Hotel, two summer nights' stay for two from Aspens Rental Agency and 25 gallons gasoline form Ken Betteridge Distributor. The grand prize list is long, but the other prize list of prizes being awarded is twice, maybe even three times as long and includes dinners, gift certificates, t-shirts and a host of others. Live entertainment is scheduled throughout the day provided by 'The Bootleggers,' along with the big media obstacle course race. Media celebrities throughout southern Utah are scheduled to compete in an obstacle course where one team member races blindfolded, just to keep things interesting. Racing favorite Iron County, Record will battle the Cedar City Spectrum. |
